About us

Promoting and sharing knowledge of herbs, their cultivation and use

Established in 1982, the Wairarapa Herb Society has a solid membership bringing a wide range of knowledge and experiences to share. Our Constitution (PDF, 205.92 kB) provides more details about our organisation and how we are run.

Membership

Annual subscriptions are $20 per individual, and $30 for a joint subscription (two family members). A $5 reduction applies if you are a paid-up member of the Herb Federation of NZ. New members and visitors are very welcome. Please complete our application form (PDF, 1.70 MB), and come along and meet us!

Meetings and Outings

Meetings are held from 1.30pm to 3pm, on the third Tuesday of each month, at The Old Court House, Holloway Street, Carterton.

Meetings cover a variety of interesting subjects and are consistently well attended. Our meetings are both learning and social gatherings. We end with afternoon tea and a chance to catch up with other members.

The Trading Table is well patronised with proceeds subsidising events where appropriate.

The first Saturday of each month sees an outing or workshop planned, giving those unable to attend weekdays a chance to catch up with other members.

Community Herb Garden

We have established a community herb garden at Haumanu House, behind the Police Station in Carterton. Maintenance of the garden is our responsibility, and we hold regular working bees to keep the garden tidy.

This is a practical and fun way to learn about herbs and their growing habits, and an opportunity to provide herbs for community members who may not have access to them.

Newsletter

Our quarterly newsletter, Chamomile, is full of details on upcoming events, summarising meetings and outings. It also has recipes, photographs and other herbal information, making it good reading. Past editions of Chamomile are posted below.

LIbrary Catalogue

All WHS members can borrow our books. The best wat to do this is at our momthly meetings where a display of books willl be set out. You are also welcome to browse throu the full library in the back room. See our catalogue to see what books are available by clickingThe Library Catalogue (XLS, 54.00 kB) (XLS, 57.00 kB)
