Southland Herb Society

About

The Southland Herb Society was established to promote and share knowledge of herbs, their cultivation and use.

Our 11 meetings a year cover a large range of relevant topics under the herbal umbrella, ie growing herbs, culinary, medicinal, craft, historical, home and cosmetic uses. We also visit gardens and hold an annual workshop.

Unless otherwise stated our meetings are held at The Arthur Cushen Blind and Low Vision Centre, 172 Queens Drive, Invercargill, normally on the last Thursday of the month, at 7.00pm. The Society, along with Parks and Reserves, manages a Fragrant Garden which is open to the public.

A typical meeting will usually include a subject for the night, a review of a specific herb, a book review from our extensive library, supper and a raffle. We often invite a visiting speaker to share their experiences with us.

At some stage during the year, each member is asked to help run one of the meetings. In this way the load is shared, members research and learn as they go.

A monthly newsletter, ‘Herbal Harvest’ is emailed to all financial members. Example below.
