Seed bank

We are grateful to those volunteers who undertake the role of receiving, collating and distributing seed to members. The seed bank is currently managed by Anne Hurly (previously run by Jean Perks and the Napier Herb Society who made it such a success). It is a very valuable service and we ask that you give Anne your full support by saving seed and donating it to the seed bank (see address below).

The saving and exchange of herb, flower and vegetable seed between members of the Herb Federation, is important to help members grow their garden, keep alive any unusual varieties and share varieties that are typically found in different areas. THis service can only continue is members contribute seed as well as taking advantage of the opprtunity to obtain free seed. We appreciate seed from more common well-known plants as well as any special varieties. This might include those with superior flavour or scent, rare herbs, anything unusual that others might like, NZ natives, or seeds from other countries that you have had success with. support in sending any spare seed that could be of interest to members, to Anne Hurly at the address below. The collection and distribution of seed, can only continue, if you support it by saving seed and sending it to Anne Hurly.

To help Anne, it is useful if the seed has been dried and cleaned (at least removing the dried stalk) before sending. However all suitable seed is accepted. Please add as much information about the plant as you can, including the common plant name, the latin name is possible, a description, and ideally a photo. Thank you.

Seed list

Only members of the HFNZ are able to trade seeds with the Federation’s seed bank. Join the HFNZ.
